Three former Edmonson Center Nursing Home employees who are accused of abusing residents there may receive a new trial date.
The trials scheduled for later this week in Edmonson Circuit Court involving Jerry Snyder, Kelly Duvall, and Kayla Kinser were postponed. The three co-defendants, who appeared with their attorneys, were ordered to return to court on August 15.
32-year-old Snyder is charged with 14 counts of first-degree criminal abuse, 14 counts of second-degree assault, 14 counts of knowingly abusing/neglecting an adult and two counts of second-degree wanton endangerment.
Duvall, 51, and Kinser, 24, are both accused of four counts of first-degree criminal abuse, two counts of wanton endangerment, and four counts of knowingly abusing or neglecting an adult.
Authorities allege that the instances of abuse took place at the nursing home between August 2013 and February 2014.
Two of the victims have filed civil suits naming Edmonson Center Nursing Home, its parent company Genesis Healthcare and former Edmonson Center administrator Carolyn Torrence as defendants. The civil lawsuit alleges medical and corporate negligence as well as violations of the Kentucky Residents Rights Statute.
The lawsuit contends that the defendants failed to prevent abuse and neglect at the nursing home. It further alleges that the facility failed to provide adequately trained staff. The lawsuit also states that the facility failed to correct problems with resident care.
