State Departments of Health oversee nursing homes in their various states. They can inspect nursing homes and issue violations. One of the worst reports you can get is the statement that residents are in “immediate jeopardy.” One North Dakota nursing home has received just such a report according to the report by the West Fargo Pioneer.
A 147-page report released by the North Dakota Department of Health determined that the residents of West Horizons Care Center were in “immediate jeopardy.” The report was made in June and made public last Friday.
The facility has until December 7 to address problems or risk losing its Medicare and Medicaid funding.
The majority of the facility’s violations were rated on a 2 to 3 range on a scale from 1 to 4. The only level four violation was the Department of Health did not find the facility to have a registered nurse employed full time for at least eight consecutive hours each day.
Other violations included:
- Failing to maintain a sanitary facility
- Failure to provide regular showers for residents
- Failure to investigate and report allegations of abuse
- Failing to respond in a reasonable manner to the needs and preferences of residents.
- Failing to provide consistent laundry service
West Horizons isn’t only in hot water with the state health department. Last year, the CMS website gave the facility just two out of five stars.
If these violations are not corrected by December 7th, the state will terminate the facility’s government funding.
