Selecting the best attorney for your case will hinge on two things:
First, does the lawyer handle nursing home cases on a regular basis? Elder neglect law is very intricate. It’s difficult for lawyers that handle multiple practice areas to acquire the best results for their clients. Attorneys that focus solely or predominantly in nursing home cases are more likely well versed in that area of the law, and can provide better insight and experience to your case.
When meeting with your lawyer, you may want to ask questions like, how many cases like mine have you handled? Or what percentage of your practice is dedicated to nursing home cases?
Second, nursing home cases, particularly those that go to trial, can be time consuming and emotionally draining. You will want to make sure that you get along with your attorney. Do not make the mistake of picking the first attorney you meet, or the attorney that has the billboard. You may end up spending dozens upon dozens of hours meeting with this person, so they must click with your family.
When meeting with your lawyer, make sure he or she treats you the way you want to be treated. Does the lawyer speak down to you? Cut you off? Have a good feeling about the person before hiring him or her.
