The Georgia Office of Aging, also known at the Division of Aging Services, is a government agency specifically created for the wellbeing of individuals aged 60 and above, as well as adults with disabilities.
First and foremost, the main goal of the Division of Aging Services (or DAS) is to provide the necessary services to elders and adults with disabilities in order to ensure a longer and healthier life. One of the main tasks of the agency is to investigate claims of elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation. Other services include at-home assistance and caregiver programs. Some of the at-home services consist of Community Care Services, chore services, friendly visits, and nursing services. The agency will also provide nutrition and wellness counseling. There are fitness classes, meal delivery, and senior recreation activities available for those individuals interested in the nutritional program.
Next, the DAS provides education and information to elders, adults with disabilities, or family members of those eligible for the services provided by the agency. Those interested can request information on services such as, legal assistance, long-term care, elder abuse prevention, and adult protective services. Additionally, the agency is able to share information about medicaid and insurance. The insurance information may include counseling or situations of fraud and/or abuse.
The Division of Aging Services may also be able to find alternative living arrangements for recipients, locate the proper day services, and assist with finding medical aid.
